In Search of Sunrise

My contribution to the Locus Focus project is inspired by the endless car journeys from the past to our summer holiday destination. Next to my father, in the front of the car, I listened to one trance mix after another on my Discman. The endless stream of asphalt kept looming front of me, soundtracked by the early mixes of Tiësto's "In Search of Sunrise''. The combination of this repetitive image and the music gave me feelings of euphoria, sometimes pure ecstasy. I sometimes crave that feeling of being in a trance, without worries hijacking my thoughts. Every now and then I catch a glimpse of the same feeling, here in Maastricht, when I look at the Maas through the living room window of my house on the Lage Kanaaldijk. This window faces east, so every morning I watch the sun rise over the never-ending stream of water. For me, the place where I live facilitates moments of trance. Sometimes I even stumble upon the same euphoria that I experienced back then.
