There seems to be a strong relationship between locations and sound. Music styles are often linked to characters of cities and locations are said to have inspired sound, a strong example of this would be techno and post-industrial cities. The city does more than inspire, however; the city produces sound. Additionally, cities are more than the buildings and the materials that inhabit them; the meaning given by people is what makes structures and sites matter.
As a result of Covid and of unsustainable mass tourism a re-appreciation of the own city seems necessary. This reappreciation is done through interpretation of a location with sound by a variety of artists. The association between the audio and the chosen location can be anything. The goal of this series is highlighting different perceptions and interpretations of locations through a myriad of approaches with the ultimate goal of making cities more meaningful to their inhabitants.
In architecture the character of a building or site is referred to as 'Genius Loci', spirit of place. It is this 'Loci' where we derive our Locus from.
